10 ways to decorate you uni room!

After three years of uni I've got the hang of decorating a plain jane boring room! So here I am today to give you my top tips to decorate your room and make it nice and homely.

April, Alex and me all lived in the same halls in first year. Jennens Court!!! I have to say it was a really nice place to live in apart from all the international students who just stuck to themselves and of course the lack of security and the lift breaking down all the time! But hey it was student accommodation and plus our building had a small supermarket, a burger place and subway below our flats! So I can't complain that much ;)

I remember the first day I moved in to Jennens Court, I was really excited couldn't wait to move in and live life as a student. Our rooms were all en suite, so it had a shower, sink and toilet all for our own use. I took this picture on the first day I moved in, 11th September 2011 (can't believe that was 4 years ago!!!). Anyways enough talking here are my simple tops to decorate your room:

1)Pictures

Every student uses pictures to decorate their room, they remind you of home and good times. This is and example of what I had on my wall in my room (first image). I incorporated motivational quotes within the pictures. Some advice is to buy some white tack because blu tack tends to leave a mark of white walls.

2) Fairy Lights, Bunting and Garlands

Fairy lights look really cute hanging on mirrors, behind the bed or around pictures. They are also inexpensive and can be used to decorate communal areas for parties, birthdays and christmas. Garlands are really easy to make. Here are a couple I made for my birthday.

3) Cushions and Teddy Bear

We must not forgot cushions and cuddly teddy bear. When we're feeling home sick we all need something to cuddle don't we now.  You can find some really quirky cushions and bedspreads which can represent your personality and make your room more colourful.

4) Candles & Reed Diffuser

Most student accommodation does not allow candles but as long as you're in your room personally I think its okay. Primark sells cheap and nice smelling candles and reed diffusers which are a must because sometimes uni room don't smell the best.

5) Wallpaper on your pin board

This cool little idea is actually April's. It made her room feel a little more girly and feminine.  Don't forget to bring drawing pins to pin stuff to the pin board. Me and Alex used to annoy April by stealing her pins :P

6) Plants

Bring nature into your room! If you live on campus i'm sure there are plenty of bushes and plants that you can sneakily go cut and then put in your room. We were lucky enough to be close to Aston University and they had beautiful rose bushes and plants that grew during spring and summer. But here's a quick tip, well diy I guess. If you don't want to spend money on a new vase get a 1 litre plastic bottle cut off the top quarter of the bottle and there you go a instant vase! I learnt that from my flat mates in 2nd year :)

7) Rug

The feeling of soft rug under your feet after a nice warm shower is the best! Our room in first year had this weird pvc flooring and it just wasn't very nice. It is worth investing in a rug because sometimes the floor isn't very nice.

8) Magazine Holder

Believe you me you will end up collecting a lot of magazines over 8 months! And where better to put them then a magazine holder. They are also good to keep your coursework in and other important documents.

9) Jewellery Holder

These can be found anywhere there are some really cool and quirky ones in urban outfitters. As you have a small room to put all your things in, this is a great idea just to keep things tidy and look nice at the same time.

10) Lamp

Uni rooms normally have one or two ceiling lights which can make the room look quite sterile and bleak. To make your room more homely I would suggest investing in a lamp which creates softer lighting. You can buy cheap ones from argos.

Hope you liked my tips and tricks! I created a pinterest board of inspiration so go check it out!
